I
night is falling on the city
my brothers are rising
among the sleeping people
we are searching for somebody
to perfom the rite
chorus I:
flapping wings in silence
are spreading terror
flitting above the roofs
to find a new victim
hunting for bad dreams
to swallow the life power
immortal butterflies
are stalking in the twilight
chorus II:
I will protect you
from endless nightmares
till you wake up
till the evil is gone
stop hiding
you are in safety
beyond the darkness
now you're not alone
II
this is a law of stone jungle
only those who're sly will survive
insomnia syndrome is a divine gift
there is no escape from terryfying dreams
While this album might not be anything particularly mind-blowing, it's still a good example of how DSBM should be done. I have a soft spot for this album as its seductive gloominess helped me through a certain rough patch in my life, and I believe it to be somewhat of a hidden gem. Rest in peace, Reverend John Hex. An album that touches every cell in you with heavy emotions. Howlings of pain get through the bones, the reminders of forgotten, darkened times. It's a disturbing listening, yet paradoxically, so enjoyable. I would want more of it! Umbra Cornuta
